Kaos is a set of works created since 1980 as physical alterations of cellulose (burning, capillarity) in search of physical mechanisms that produce high complexity. Subsequently digitized and reprocessed. They represent the primordial form of a long journey that pervades the entire production.
Artificial Societies is a collection of images created with a program that simulates life and evolution. The images explore the mechanisms of inorganic nature and organic life, up to those of the mind and social evolution seen as phenomena of the same nature. A dance of life that crosses various closely interconnected scales. In particular, the focus is on the edge of chaos, that magical transition area between order and chaos where life and creativity develop.
The Garden of Attractors is a line of research on the metaphors between psyche and chaotic attractors. The attractor is a mathematical process that obsessively replicates a dynamic but always with small changes. Until the sum of these changes produces a sudden change in the behavior of the entire system.
Smarginature is the result of the fusion of the works of the years 1997-2010 with a path of interior development process. The "Smarginatura" (from Elena Ferrante, "L’amica geniale") is the loss of the margins of a perception (a memory, an impression, an emotion) when it enters in the psychic dimension. Some fragments of reality remain but altered and enveloped by the emotions that that memory brings with it. It is an exploration of the many pychic fragments by welcoming them without trying to resolve the contradictions they generate in us. In each of us there are "one hundred thousand" identities (Pirandello, "One, nobody, one hundred thousand"). We are none of these, but an aggregation that tries to keep us together to think of ourselves as one person. Once again, we are on the edge of chaos, a free and creative area in which we free ourselves from the rigid and moralistic order that denies what we don't like about ourselves, but we manage to harmoniously aggregate our identities to escape the chaos of madness.
NeuroSocieties is an interactive installation that focuses on the processes of perception that comes directly from nature into our identity. The images are generated run time as they appear on the screen. Autonomous fragments develop, grow, reproduce until they build an entity that can be natural, perceptive, or a profound element of our identity. The installation is divided into cycles that follow a “fil rouge” through different life scales. One of these cycles is interactive, that is, it develops on the basis of visitors' images, like a mirror in which everyone can see a personal emotion. The development of the images highlights the processes of construction of complexity. A similar process connected with the development of the images produces soundscapes in real time connected to the same emotional states evoked by the images.
